Cheapest Hotel Reservations: Here Is Your Free Priceline Secret Technique Guru's
Travel
Report #906
![]() As you may know, Priceline has two primary ways to find the best deals on hotel reservations (or any travel services for that matter). First is the regular Search feature like the other major travel websites, where you enter in your requested details, and they find flights and hotels for you. These prices are all pretty competitive and similar among the major sites. Blah, blah, blah--pretty tame but is actually a good way to go for a lot of people. The other, more exciting, option is the Priceline Name Your Own Price option that allows you to bid on travel services and potentially save up to an additional 50% on hotel reservations, airfare and auto rentals. This is where you can save a bundle on your vacation costs--more than with the other travel websites. If you do it wrong you’ll bid too high (wasting money) or bid too low and waste many days getting to an acceptable price. Also, there can be a bit of apprehension about bidding for travel if you’ve never done that. But not to worry! So how to get your best pricing on hotel reservations using Priceline? The bottom line is that you will use a cool independent website where people report the actual details of their bidding for similar travel services. That will help you know how to bid properly (and will give you a greater level of comfort with the process). So here’s the “secret” 3-step method, after you’ve decided on the primary details related to your intended trip—location, approximate dates (some flexibility will be helpful but not essential), level of quality in the hotel, etc. It really is simple, so take a minute and read it carefully--it could pay off big time for you. 1. Go to the Priceline website at the link below. (There you’ll first check for advertised specials, just in case they happen to have any killer travel deals right away—probably won’t happen.) Check the Hotels page and look for the See Winning Hotel Bids page to get your first bit of comparison pricing information on hotel reservations. If you want, you could also do a simple search and just see what normal discount pricing is for your air/hotel/car preferences (and any good package deals). Here’s the link you need: Click on the Name Your Own Price Bid Now button and it will take you to pages where you can find out your options for lodging in the area around your destination. You'll do a bit more price checking now. DON'T BID yet; just write down the best pricing on hotel reservations or airfare you saw elsewhere on the site and any other pertinent information that surfaced in your preliminary research. Priceline also has great Help for understanding the process—spend a little time on that if you’ve not used the Name Your Own Price option before. 2. Now, this is important. Go to the biddingfortravel.com website and look for what people are saying about vacation trips at your destination. You should see an online forum that relates to your destination (we saw a link called Forum Jump that takes you to the difference geographical areas. For example, you will find what people spent on Cancun hotel reservations in the Mexico section of the forums. Spend a little time on this website writing down what others paid—this is great pricing research very specific to understanding the lowest successful bids! There is also a good FAQ section to help further in your understanding (and comfort level) with the Priceline system. Armed with this pricing information and what you learned in your first trip to Priceline, you are ready to bid. (As an option for those who really like to research, you could also quickly check on one or two major hotel websites and see what they offer in terms of the best deals on hotel reservations—same for airfare and cars. But don't let this bog you down!) 3. Return to Priceline and submit a bid at the lowest level where others have had success--or slightly lower if you want to test their low end on travel deals. (There are limits on when you can resubmit after a declined bid, but sometimes trying a slightly different geographical area near your original location, or a different date will let you get around any delays in submitting new bids.) That's It! You are bidding for the lowest possible price on hotel reservations, airfare and other travel services, armed with knowledge of what has worked for others. And knowledge is power when dealing with the travel industry. HOME TRAVEL DEALS PRIVACY POLICY Copyright © 2011 J.M.
